Support Groups

Epilepsy Ottawa-Carleton is dedicated to being a reliable source of information and support to anyone in our service area with epilepsy and their families. People diagnosed with epilepsy may benefit greatly from the encouragement that comes from meeting others in a similar situation.

Support groups offer an opportunity to become better informed and to reduce anxiety and any potential feelings of vulnerability. Hopefully, this support can reduce some of the isolation that is often associated with epilepsy.
See Calendar for the dates for the next support group meetings.

Epilepsy Support Group:

This group of indiviuals of all ages, meets for an informal gathering at 6:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month at the EOC office on Bronson Avenue.

For people who are living with epilepsy, it’s an opportunity to talk about their personal experiences with other people who can relate to their situation. It’s not all about epilepsy; rather, it’s a chance to get together with other people who are having similar experiences and just hang out.

For more information, please contact Epilepsy Ottawa-Carleton at info@epilepsyottawa.ca or call 613-594-9255.

Other Support Groups:

Support groups for Spouses or Parents of someone with epilepsy or other specified interests may be held based on participant interest and the availability of volunteer group facilitators. Support is also provided to students or adults through our "Seizure Smart" educational presentations which can be provided to schools, workplaces or other organizations upon request.

Please Contact Us for more information - we will be delighted to hear from you!

Public Information Meetings

Once a month EOC hosts an information evening which is open to anyone with epilepsy and their families, the general public or anyone with an interest in epilepsy. These meetings are held on the first non-holiday Monday of the month (except January, July and August) at 7:00 p.m. at the Bronson Centre.

At each meeting a speaker addresses the group on a special topic. Speakers are usually professionals in the health care area and in other fields. They bring the latest information and fresh perspectives on everything from surgical treatment news to dealing with memory disorders; legal issues; alternative therapies, etc.. These meetings are informal and we welcome anyone interested in listening, learning and sharing.

All meetings take place at 7:00 p.m. at Bronson Centre, 211 Bronson Avenue, Ottawa.
For Upcoming Meetings please see our Calendar.

Seizure Smart Program

A particularly important service provided by EOC is the "Seizure Smart” in-service presentation which is made to schools, workplaces and other organizations to raise awareness of how seizure disorders manifest themselves and how they can and should be managed. Learn the three “R”s of epilepsy: Recognize, Respond, and Respect

Would you like to become Seizure Smart?

Book a Seizure Smart presentation for your group, school or workplace. Our workshops are led by knowledgeable volunteers. Contact Us to arrange a presentation:
·               Recognizing seizures,
·               Responding appropriately, and
·               Respecting the needs of those who experience them.
Learn what a seizure looks like; how seizures affect a life; what to do; and more importantly, what not to do in response to one.
